The Children of Sireen

Studying the biographies of the Salaf have implications for Muslim parents wanting to follow in their footsteps and those seeking guidance in their parenting.

In this short clip, we gain a glimpse into the tarbiyah of the children of Sireen. Sireen (the father of the great scholar, Muhammad ibn Sireen) was the freed slave of Anas bin Malik.

It is said that he had either 7 or 10 children and all of his children were known to be trustworthy. He married Safiyyah, the freed slave of Abu Bakr As-Siddeeq, with whom he had Muhammad bin Sireen.

Sireen acquainted his children with the righteous and cultivated them upon the seeking of knowledge at an early age. It is narrated that he would take his children to study with Abu Hurairah (radi Allahu anhu). His son, Muhammad, is said to have sat with approximately 30 of the Prophet’s Companions.
